Another Bid to Build a Flying Submarine

Submarines that can fly like airplanes have been promoted in science fiction entertainment for many years. As early as the 1960s, in the Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea movie and television series, a flying sub often used for exploration, was contained in the belly of a larger submarine called the Seaview. A futuristic craft that is both submersible and can fly has rescued James Bond from certain calamity in the movies of that genre. Of course, a submarine that can become an aircraft is still only science fiction fantasy and does not exist anywhere in the world today. The difficulty in creating such an invention is the reason that a flying submarine exists today only in the imagination of Hollywood...

You may be thinking and asking yourself why you are not being considered for a promotion when you have the right qualification and experience. You may also be asking yourself why the company appointed you in the first place if you are not considered good enough for a promotion now. Before you give up trying, consider some of the following and measure yourself as to whether you meet some of the requirements demanded by employers. What personality traits are employers looking for? Recruiters are looking for people who know the mission and vision of the organization. People who know the strategy, goals and objectives of the organization. You probably know several colleagues who have been promoted but...

The teaching of adults differs considerably from children because of the background knowledge of students and the fact that they are usually eager to learn of their own accord, instead of it being mandatory to be taught. Adult education is continually evolving as numerous methods and incentives are established to try and make education easy later in life, and this is being stimulated today with the increased accessibility through distance learning and e-Learning. Typical adult education centres offer the opportunity for students who have not completed their schooling to continue and aim for an equivalent achievement (such as a GED in the US), or they may well be adjoined to a university or college...

The term calculus was derived from the Latin word for small stone used for counting. Indeed this small branch of mathematics once developed has helped us to count on various modern inventions. This field of mathematics involves the study of derivatives, limits, infinite series and integrals. The need of calculus arose from the insufficiency of previous methods like algebra. However, we must not forget that calculus has been built upon the concepts of algebra, analytical geometry and trigonometry. This particular branch has helped for many years' different scientists as well as engineers to refine their work. There are basically two major branches of calculus; notably they are classified as...

According to scientific books, an atom, no matter its physical anatomy, will always remain electrically neutral. But I disagree. Because I believe the atom is electrically positive and not neutral. “Today’s assumption is tomorrow’s assignment”. I wrote this saying in 1977 when I started to question myself about the possibility of harnessing gravitational forces as a new kind of energy source. I kept this thought in mind to help me going while being aware of the great challenges lying ahead in tackling such a complex and controversial issue. Following in the footsteps of Christopher Columbus I sailed on to discover the secrets of gravity. Yes, it all started with wishful thinking and so it is...

Children are Natural Scientists! From the day they are born they venture out into our world with a thirst to discover and explore that is wonderful to watch. Unfortunately the majority of our schools approach science in such a way that our kids become quickly overwhelmed and completely turned off. It seems more new vocabulary is introduced in these classes than you find in a foreign language course! How then can we nurture their natural curiosity and guide them towards continuing the investigation they know how to do so well? First and foremost we need to really focus on listening to our children's questions. Give them the space they need to develop the direction of their enquiry. It's a great...

Utilizing private tutoring is an excellent way for a parent to help their child succeed in school or any academic area. In the school itself, it is often difficult for a student to receive one on one help, even though they may need it to reach their full potential. That is where private tutoring comes in. By hiring a private tutor, your child gets all the attention they need and deserve, and you can keep the tutor for as long as they are required. A private tutor may be needed for any number of reasons. Perhaps your child is falling behind the rest of the class, or cannot keep up with what a teacher is assigning. Tutors can work with students to teach them difficult concepts, and explain the...

Bonding, Structure and Properties  When atoms join together, either with the same atom or a different atom, the way it joins, has considerable effect on its structure and then consequently on its properties. The joining of an atom to another atom is called Bonding. Bonding involves each atom either donating or accepting electron from another atom. It is also done through sharing electrons. There are three types of bonding that will be discussed here.  Ionic Bonding The bonding involves ions as the name suggests. When an atom becomes a positive ion by losing an electron, this positive ion will look for a negative ion to attract. A negative ion will be the atom that has gained an electron. When...

The most important ingredient to a high UAI is to ace all your subjects. While we place a huge emphasis on English these days (being the only compulsory subject in the NSW HSC), the hype over English is slightly overrated by now. Put in a simple way, if you ace your HSC English but ace nothing else, your UAI will be mediocre at best. Instead, do not over-focus on any particular subject. Every student's goal is to maximise their UAI, so their best ten units count towards their all-important UAI. The obvious thing here is that each unit is equally weighted, and there is no inherent reason why a student should treat HSC English any different to any other HSC subject they are doing as part of their 10...

After all, at one time the sun was thought of as a God instead of energy. Alleviating hunger, a severe manifestation of poverty, depends in the long run on sustainable and broad-based economic growth and income generation. In many poor countries, these depend on a productive, competitive, and sustainable agricultural sector. To achieve these conditions, countries must invest in rural areas to strengthen agriculture, aquaculture, the food system, and infrastructure, and to restore and conserve critical natural resources for agricultural production. This requires both public and private investment -- domestic and foreign. However, this is not enough. All sectors of civil...

Homeschool Grading

Every family that decides to homeschool must tackle the issue of grading. Do grades help you assess your child's progress? Or is the whole reason for grading a throwback to a content standard in public schools that is not really relevant to homeschoolers? Every state has content standards that can be obtained from your local superintendent's office. These describe what should be taught in a given year and a grade. And in public schools, standardized testing measures how well a child meets those standards.
